Tiger Myrtle Oval Hair Clip

This large oval-shaped hair clip is made from a prominent species of the temperate rainforests of Tasmania and Victoria: Myrtle. This rare Australian timber has characteristic warm tones, ranging from pale pink to deep red.

Tiger Myrtle, so named for the black tiger-like stripes running through it, was once discarded by wood craftsmen as 'blemished'. Thankfully, it is no longer wasted and has now joined the list of beautiful and highly-prized Tasmanian specialty timbers. The tiger featured in this unique clip has lost his 'stripes' and runs wild along the crazy wood grain of the burl this timber has been sliced from.

Hand-crafted using traditional wood bending techniques and delicately shaped to enhance the grain of the featured timber. The wood is very strong, yet light to wear and is meticulously finished until it is irresistibly smooth, with a deep natural lustre.
