Figured Huon Pine Oval Hair Clip

$50.00

This large oval-shaped hair clip is made from Huon Pine, named after the Huon River on the banks of which it grows in southern Tasmania. This ancient riverine species is perhaps the most highly valued Australian timber as it is only grows in Tasmania, where any remaining trees are protected from further logging. Huon Pine is extremely slow-growing, with trees taking 2000 or more years to reach maturity.

The timber is clear and silky-smooth, showing tiny growth rings along its butter-coloured grain with a splash of birdseye, (the reddish-brown spots) or fiddleback (tight ripples) featured.

Hand-crafted using traditional wood bending techniques and delicately shaped to enhance the grain of the featured timber. The wood is strong, yet light to wear and is meticulously finished until it is irresistibly smooth, with a deep natural lustre.

Large (80mm) stainless steel barrette clip. This size clip suits most wearers, with its 2-stage closure that allows for varying amounts of hair.
